21 Day Fast // Day 14: Fear Is Not An Option

DAY 14 // JOHN 14: // "Fear Is Not An Option" // STEPHANIE ALVARADO

John 14:27
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
Thousands of years ago, while Jesus was on this earth walking among us, ministering with his disciples, he thought of us here in 2021. While preparing his disciples for the reality of his death and departure, Jesus spoke the gift of peace over them. This gift is a peace that has transcended time & space and is very much present with us today. Jesus knew what our reality would be. He knew that we would experience waves of loss, hurt, and pain; but, as the good Father that he is, he knew what we would need to endure them. He gave us the gift of peace. He gave us the gift of His Spirit. This is the peace that surpasses understanding. He also gave us an order. In verse 27, scripture clearly tells us to “not let our hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” As believers, fear is not an option. That does not mean that we don’t feel fear or get scared. Please do not misunderstand me. To remain in fear is dangerous. What it does mean, however, is that because of Jesus’ ultimate victory on the cross--as sons and daughters in community with Christ--we have the inheritance of peace. What a great God we serve! So great that in the midst of storms, we would find peace in His presence.
