FOOD DISTRIBUTION

Addressing food insecurity through compassionate service.

Weekly Distribution
Wednesdays | 10a-12p

Through our food distribution program, we are providing a week’s worth of groceries to 200 families each week, including fresh produce, frozen meat and shelf-stable items.  We are also distributing 100 grocery bags each week to our unhoused community.  We also sponsor a Free Farmer’s Market event on the 2nd Saturday of each month.

We hire special needs youth enrolled in LB Unified School District’s ACT program to work the Free Farmer’s Market events.  Through this grant we also pay for gardening and nutrition classes as well as cooking classes to teach them sustainable ways of feeding themselves.  At the end of the program, we build a raised bed garden in the home of each of the students.

To accomplish these things, we have developed partnerships with several local agencies and community organizations, such as the City of Long Beach, the Port of Long Beach, the Foodbank of So Cal, Food Finders, LBCEI (LB Center for Economic Inclusion), the He Ain’t Heavy Foundation, Sowing Seeds of Change, Feel Good Salsa, Long Beach Unified School District and the Church of Jesus Christ and Latter Day Saints Church.

We hope to have the honor to serve you, please register weekly below!

2nd Saturdays | 10A-12P

Our Free Farmers Market is an amazing new program that hires special needs kids to run the booths. This joint venture with LB Unified School District's ACT program creates a space where graduating seniors are helped along with transition to adulthood through employment and further learning opportunities.

Our Mission

Our Guiding Principle

The mission of the Light and Life Food Distribution Program is to demonstrate the love of Christ through tangible acts of compassion
that addresses food insecurity in our community.
We offer services in the same way Christ offered services to the marginalized
and underserved of His day –
without judgment, and with dignity and respect for their personhood.
